About Us

"The Cat"

The Red Lion at Shadwell dates back to circa 1361 - for many years it was known locally as "the cat" or "red cat" due to a badly painted sign (which looked more like a cat than a lion!). The pub was taken over by Joshua Tetley & Son in 1964 and soon after became one of the premier Tetley houses in Leeds.

In more recent times the Lion has seen more than it's fair share of licensees until December 2005, when myself (Richard) & my wife (Joanne) took charge and started to slowly put the pub back on the map - and reinstate it as one of the best locals around.

We attracted back real ale drinkers by striving to keep our ales in perfect condition and achieving "cask marque" status.

We also have a fabulous homemade food menu which has gone down tremendously with regulars and visitors alike.

There's now so much going on you never have to be home alone!
